Ever since the US Mint introduced the American Eagle Bullion Coin Series in 1986, collectors and investors worldwide have continued to populate their portfolios with Gold, Silver, Platinum, and even Palladium Eagles. The Gold American Eagle, the official bullion coin of the United States, is detailed with universal American symbols; including the American Eagle, Lady Liberty, and the US Capitol. To mark the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Coin program, the US Mint unveiled new reverse designs for both the Gold Eagles and Silver Eagles in 2020; sending shockwaves through the coin community. The first Eagles debuting the new design were subsequently released in mid-2021. While the reverse for the gold and silver versions have both been updated, the Platinum and Palladium Eagle designs have not been modified.

The obverse features the Augustus Saint-Gaudens illustration that was inspired by the pre-1933 Gold Double Eagle. In this design, Lady Liberty strides forward with a flaming torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. These two objects symbolize the unity of peace and strength. In the background, there are rays of sunlight radiating from the US Capitol.

The reverse of the Gold Eagle displays the new reverse design by Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. The up-close portrait of a bald eagle invokes a noble intensity that inspires a sense of pride.
