This classic Gold American Buffalo coin is struck with .9999 fine gold with a weight of 1 ounce. Although this coin carries a face value of $50, it is worth much more for its precious gold content. The Gold American Buffalo coin has been a staple for many coin collectors for years all around the world. Be among those with one of the iconic Gold American Buffalo coins.

Gold American Buffalo coins premiered in 2006 and investors globally flocked to stores to purchase them for their collections. The high demand has not slowed for this coin, which is the first 24K gold coins released to the public by the US government. These coins were originally struck to compete with foreign 24K gold coins taking the world by storm. Despite being called the Gold American Buffalo coin, this coin actually features the American Bison commonly referred to as the American Buffalo in both the US and Canada. This common misnomer became the accepted term for these animals indigenous to the North American continent.

The obverse of the Gold American Buffalo coin bears the illustration by James Earle Fraser, who originally sketched his design for the Buffalo Nickel. This image features a portrait of a Native American man whose likeness was a blend of three different tribal chiefs who posed for Fraser. In the portrait, we see the profile of a man who stares to the right so we can admire his feathered headdress and braids.

The reverse of the coin spotlights the American Bison grazing on a grassy field. This illustration was inspired by the 1,550-pound American Buffalo from the Central Park Zoo in the 1910s.
